Embarking on a Kitchen Remodel

It didn't take us long to decide to demolish part of our new home. The existing kitchen is an oddity, due largely to the placement of the refridgerator (this pic is how the prior owners had it):

We decided that rather than redesign the existing room, we'd actually transplant the kitchen into the adjacent room, which originally was a family room (before the larger family room was added). Corey sketched this layout nicely:

We've gone through several sketches of what we'd like to do. This is the most current rendition, though we've made some changes to this too, but it has the major appliances where they roughly belong:

We're in the process of finally selecting appliances. We thought we'd done this, but our cabinet maker (Rob @ Midland Cabinet Co. http://www.midlandcabinet.com) is trying to get us to change the refridgerator choice to one which will look better with the cabinetry. While he's right in that the integrated design will look nicer, it forces us to go with a freezer-on-the-bottom and slightly smaller fridge, rather than the side-by-side that I'm partial to. Well, its probably another trip to the appliance store this weekend to look them over again....
